八重山に来て気がついたことがあります。
この島では、雨が降っても傘をささない人が多いということです。

ときには強い雨でも、そのまま歩いている人を見かけます。
最初は少し驚きましたが、しばらく暮らしているうちに、私自身も傘をささずに歩くようになっていました。

ここでは雨は、避けるものというより、濡れるもの。

晴れていた空が急に曇り、さっと雨が降る。
そんな変化が日常のように起こるこの島では、それもまた自然な風景です。

大地を潤し、木々に生命力をもたらす雨。
その雨の中を歩くとき、私たちは自然の一部としてこの島に生きていることを、静かに感じるのです。

AME-Rain

One of the things I noticed after coming to the Yaeyama Islands was how people here walk in the rain without umbrellas.

Even when the rain falls heavily, many simply continue walking as they are.
At first it surprised me. But after living here for a while, I found myself doing the same.

On these islands, rain is not something to avoid.
It is something you simply become part of.

The sky can change quickly—bright sunshine suddenly turning into a tropical shower.
In Yaeyama, this rhythm of sun and rain is just part of everyday life.

Rain nourishes the earth and brings vitality to the trees and plants.
Walking through it, you begin to feel a quiet connection with the land and its living nature.

Here, rain is not an inconvenience.
It is a gentle reminder that we live within nature, not apart from it.

熊野牛王神符からインスピレーションを得たオリジナルの「鳥文字」

The Inspiration Behind TORIMOJI

One of the visual inspirations for TORIMOJI comes from an ancient Japanese talisman called Kumano Goō Hōfu, issued by the Kumano shrines in Wakayama for hundreds of years.

This sacred paper charm is created from many stylized crows. When arranged together, the birds form mysterious patterns that look almost like writing.

In Japanese mythology, the crow is considered a sacred messenger of the gods.

Inspired by this tradition of forming symbols from birds, TORIMOJI explores a contemporary interpretation — creating new characters from the shapes and movements of birds.
