風 — Wind

八重山では、風のことを「カジ」と呼びます。
夏至南風（カーチバイ）、新北風（ミーニシ）、南風（パイカジ）など、風には細やかな名前があり、一説には二百を超えるとも言われています。人々はその風を読み、漁や畑仕事の目安にしてきました。

八重山は、いつも風が吹いている島です。
風は刻々と表情を変え、肌に触れる感触も日ごとに違います。

吹き上げ、吹き下ろす風の中で、樹々の精霊とともに風を見計らう鳥を描きました。

KAZE-Wind

In Yaeyama, the wind is called kaji.
Each wind has its own name—such as Kachibai (the summer-solstice wind), Miinishi (the new north wind), and Paikaji (the south wind). Some say there are more than 200 names for the winds, each serving as a guide for fishing and farming.

In Yaeyama, the wind is always present.
It changes moment by moment, and the feeling of it on the skin is never quite the same.

This Torimoji design represents Wind.
Birds watch the shifting currents of air, together with the spirits of the trees, sensing when the wind rises and falls.

The Inspiration Behind TORIMOJI

One of the visual inspirations for TORIMOJI comes from an ancient Japanese talisman called Kumano Goō Hōfu, issued by the Kumano shrines in Wakayama for hundreds of years.

This sacred paper charm is created from many stylized crows. When arranged together, the birds form mysterious patterns that look almost like writing.

In Japanese mythology, the crow is considered a sacred messenger of the gods.

Inspired by this tradition of forming symbols from birds, TORIMOJI explores a contemporary interpretation — creating new characters from the shapes and movements of birds.
